Literature Review Executive Summary: Emotional concerns in the workplace are a considerable loss to employee’s health and welfare. They slow down the performance of employee and so they are harmful to the organisational well-being as well. Blanca Seynos The Myth of Sisyphus In the essay of â€Å"The Myth of Sisyphus† Albert Camus suggests that there is a possibility that there is no real meaning to life and that as humans, it is a pointless gesture to go looking for this religious or universal meaning. Camus uses Sisyphus as his prime example of this. Sisyphus, a punished human for â€Å"certain levity in regard to the gods† has to do a pointless task of pushing a rock up a hill repeatedly. Sisyphus small amount of hope keeps him content that he is able to have a solid purpose that he can see and feel the rock even though in the end of the task it is meaningless as the rock will drop back down the hill. I disagree with Camus’ view that there is no real meaning to life because, as a young Christian at an Evangelistic Church, to know God and enjoy him forever is the meaning of life. The reason this is the meaning of life is because God created us that way. God created a beautiful world and put humanity in it to live and prosper, but overall to have a relationship ith him. This was the purpose of our creation. We are most happy, fulfilled and complete when we are worshiping and being in a relationship with our Lord. By ignoring God and not having that relationship with him is a sin. Having that sin in your live is what makes your live less than what they could be. People live outside in the cold when God wants them to come into his house and live with him. It is the n when we turn back to God and stop ignoring him what he will find true happiness and fulfillment. Our role in this world is to seek out and encourage one another in love and walking in faith. This modern world is so focused on individualism that being part of and serving in a community loses its path leading people to feel alone. Our lives today are to live in a way that we serve God and the people he has put in our community. Camus believed that life was pointless because no matter what accomplishments you achieved you would die and that will be the end of them, but it’s not like that. God holds us responsible for our failure. Jesus teaches about a time in the future when we will all have to come before God in judgment and face the consequences for the way we have lived. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you’ll be saved and that will be your purpose for living. Camus’ introduced the option that life is meaningless by interpreting the idea of absurdity and how giving meaning to life in ways such as religiously, is inevitably pointless because in the end death is terminal. Camus’ suggests that happiness arises from absurdity when one learns and accepts death. Sisyphus is a happy man because he was able to come to terms with his punishment although it had to be eternal. Unlike, Camus’ idea being able to believe that the more you grow in your understanding of what God has done in your live, the more you will want others to know about it, and how God can change their lives for the better. The characters in the novel live throughout their lives experiencing different things with different people, but it all comes back to love as the force that brings them together. The story is set around a North Dakota Indian reservation over a span of fifty years. It is the story of two families who lives intertwine because of different bonds of both love and hate. You are introduced to the main character of the novel, Marie Lazzare Kashpaw, while she is still in her youth. As a young Indian, she goes to live at the Sacred Heart convent. She is taken under the wing of the twisted Sister Leopolda who beats and abuses Satan out of her soul. Yet, Marie puts up with her abusive treatment. Sister Leopolda explains her harshness to Marie as a difference between herself and the Devil. He wants you. Thats the difference. I give you love. Marie both does come to hate and love her. This nun made her as strong as she was. She gave her pride in herself; pride to prove to Leopolda that the Devil was not within her and that she could succeed even as the wife of an Indian. There are relationships in the novel that contained true love. Many of these relationships were not marriages, but they outlasted everything. Nector Kashpaw is possibly the most significant character in that sense in the novel. His love life ties the lives of the two main characters of the novel, Marie Kashpaw and Lulu Lamartine. In Nector’s youth he had promised to marry Lulu, but then found himself in the arms of Marie. He marries her instead and has children and a life with her. Lulu goes from man to man having children all with different paternal lineage. Yet it is Lulu that Nector really loves, and as much as she hates to admit it, it is Nector that still holds her heart. They have an affair together that continues for years until Nector is forced to choose between them. He loves Lulu, but is rejected by her and returns to Marie. Although he is still with Marie, his heart still belongs to Lulu. In the course of Nectors death and a joint business venture with Lyman Lamartine, the two women become close. They form a bond with each other through their mutual connection to Nector that is very surprising for they had been rivals throughout his lifetime. They are able to overcome their hatred for each other because of their love for Nectar. They are able to mourn together, reminisce together, even laugh together. It is love that causes their tie and a combining of the two families. The friendship and marriage of Gordie Kashpaw and June Kashpaw, who were playmates and cousins, is another relationship that depicts the strength of true love. In their youth the two were inseparable. They told each other everything. When they grew older they ran off to get married. They had a child together, but June was wild. She would go off for months to do as she pleased with whomever she pleased. Their marriage, when together, was not all smooth sailing either. Gordie was abusive. After her death, Gordie thought to himself, They we knew each other better than most people who were married a lifetime. They we knew the good things, but they we knew how to hurt each other, too. He claims to have missed her while she was gone, but was also relieved in her absence. Now that she was dead, he could not believe that she was never coming back. He is overcome by grief and love as he goes over their years together in his mind. His love for her is so strong that it drives him to drink to sh ut the memories out. He thinks that her ghost comes back to him and he thinks that he kills her. Junes death causes him to become delusional with grief and loss. It is he who really has the insight into what is meaningful in life. He calls himself a healer and claims to be able to remove the pains of others. This is what makes him special. He sees the heartache of his grandmother, Marie Kashpaw, at the fact that her husband Nector is in love with another woman. He knows of the ancient magical powers of love medicine and attempts to rekindle the flame of passion between his two grandparents. He fails in acquiring the necessary ingredients for his potion and substitutes common grocery store items for the ancient recipe. Lipsha comes upon an idea that can be seen as the nature of the novel. He says, I finally convinced myself that the actual power to the love medicine was not the goose heart itself but the faith in the cure. This could not possibly be truer. All of the feelings of love in the novel pull those involved together. In the end it is the pure and true love that overcomes all other obstacles and brings the people back to each other.

Although they share and relate to various subjects, Julia and Win ston however are very different in ways including actions, thoughts, and feelings. Orwell describes the lovers as people who contradict in many ways but come together with a one central thought, that they hate the Party. Julia and Winston differ regarding their thoughts on the Party. Although both Julia and Winston experience the same hatred towards Big Brother, their thoughts and reasons don't agree. While Winston preoccupies himself with digging up the past and finding out what the government has hidden from them, Julia doesn't seem to show much care in what the Party does to their society. She has no particular reason to rebel against the government except for the reason being that she does it for her own pleasure. This starts to bother Winston and even tells her that she is "only a rebel from the waist down" (Orwell 168). The statement does not even come across as an insult to her because she is only interested in her relationship with Winston. "She hated the Party, and she said so in the crudest words, but she made no general criticism of it." (Orwell 116). This proves that Julia is not as interested in overthrowing the Party through indirect characterization. Contrarily, Winston is cons tantly worrying about the Thought Police picking up on his illegal thoughts or the Party finding out about his relationship. Through character analysis, they both show distinctions in their personalities. Julia is more free spirited, adventurous and takes risks. She is not concerned about what the Party is essentially doing to the people and fairly selfish, engrossed in rebelling with Winston only for the pleasures to be gained. She had her first affair when she was 16 with an old man who later committed suicide in fear of getting arrested. For example, when Winston asks Julia if she has had sex before, she answers with "Of course. Hundreds of times-well, scores of times anyway" (Orwell 109). She resorts to violence quicker than Winston and uses ill words to describe the government. "Julia, however, seemed unable to mention the party, and especially the inner party, without using the kind of words you saw chalked up in dripping alleyways." (Orwell 108). She busies herself with community service and other orthodox activities so t hat she can escape the Party's T houghtcrime radar. Contr astingly, Winston was always contemplative and curious, desperate to understand how and why the Party exercises such absolute power in Oceania. He lives h is life constantly dreading Big Brother, calculating his actions and repeatedly worries about getting caught by the Thought Police. With a further look into character depiction, Winston and Julia contrast in their appearance. From his physical description, he is described as a thirty-nine-year-old man who is run down and unhealthy whereas Julia is youthful and active. "His veins had swelled with the effort of the cough, and the varicose ulcer had started itching" (Orwell 27). Winston is introduced as weak and vulnerable but when he sees Julia for the first time, he wants to kill her because she was young and pretty. Some similarities they share is that they both despise the Party and are rebellious towards Big Brother. Their love was a form of rebellion and it began with the note she gave him saying "I love you" (Orwell 95). Winston was a married man and while they knew that having an affair was the biggest crime anyone could commit, they continued anyway.
